Το φετινό Transplant Masterclass αποτελεί ένα ορόσημο για τον θεσμό, καθώς συμπληρώνει πέντε χρόνια συνεχούς παρουσίας και διαλόγου γύρω από τη δωρεά οργάνων και τις μεταμοσχεύσεις, ενώ ταυτόχρονα συμπίπτει με τον πρώτο χρόνο λειτουργίας του νέου Ωνάσειου Νοσοκομείου (και του Ωνάσειου Εθνικού Μεταμοσχευτικού Κέντρου). Ο φετινός τίτλος είναι “From Donation to Life: Redefining Transplantation Pathways” και εκφράζει ακριβώς τη μετάβαση από τη δωρεά οργάνων στην οργανωμένη δυνατότητα. Από την υποδομή στην κλινική πράξη. Από την επιστημονική εξέλιξη στη ζωή. Έναν χρόνο μετά την έναρξη λειτουργίας του νέου μεταμοσχευτικού κέντρου, η συζήτηση δεν αφορά μόνο όσα επιτεύχθηκαν, αλλά κυρίως όσα καθίστανται πλέον δυνατά για το μέλλον των μεταμοσχεύσεων στην Ελλάδα, με την πολύτιμη στήριξη της Πολιτείας.

Ξεχωριστή στιγμή θα αποτελέσει η προβολή της βιντεοσκοπημένης συνέντευξης με τον Abdulaziz Aldarwish, ο οποίος μας αφηγείται την περιπέτεια της υγείας του δεκάχρονου γιου του, Yahia, που είχε αίσιο τέλος χάρη στη συνεργασία Κύπρου και Ελλάδας και τη μεταμόσχευση νεφρού στο Ωνάσειο. Είναι η ιστορία ενός πατέρα που διέσχισε σύνορα αναζητώντας θεραπεία για το παιδί του, για να γίνει τελικά ο ίδιος δότης νεφρού και να του προσφέρει μια δεύτερη ευκαιρία στη ζωή. Η προσωπική αυτή ιστορία συναντήθηκε με τις νέες δυνατότητες που δημιούργησε η επανεκκίνηση των παιδιατρικών μεταμοσχεύσεων νεφρού χαμηλού σωματικού βάρους στην Ελλάδα και αποτυπώνει με τον πιο αυθεντικό τρόπο το μήνυμα ότι πίσω από κάθε μεταμόσχευση βρίσκεται μια αλυσίδα ανθρώπων, θεσμών και πράξεων εμπιστοσύνης.

Το φετινό πρόγραμμα θα φέρει σε διάλογο Έλληνες και διεθνείς επιστήμονες γύρω από τα μεγάλα θέματα που διαμορφώνουν το μέλλον των μεταμοσχεύσεων: την ιατρική ακριβείας, τους βιοδείκτες, την τεχνητή νοημοσύνη, τις παιδιατρικές μεταμοσχεύσεις και τη δωρεά μετά από κυκλοφορικό θάνατο (DCD). Παράλληλα, θα παρουσιαστούν οι σημαντικότερες εξελίξεις του πρώτου έτους λειτουργίας του νέου Ωνάσειου Νοσοκομείου και του Ωνάσειου Εθνικού Μεταμοσχευτικού Κέντρου, όχι ως αυτοσκοπός, αλλά ως μέρος μιας ευρύτερης εθνικής προσπάθειας για την ενίσχυση της δωρεάς και των μεταμοσχεύσεων στη χώρα.

Σημαντική συγκυρία αποτελεί το γεγονός ότι τα Transplant Masterclasses συμπληρώνουν πέντε χρόνια ζωής, έχοντας εξελιχθεί σε έναν σταθερό χώρο ανταλλαγής γνώσης, εμπειρίας και έμπνευσης για επαγγελματίες υγείας, επιστήμονες και πολίτες.

From organ donation to life: Redefining the pathways of transplantation

This year’s Transplant Masterclass marks a special occasion, as the program celebrates five years of continuous presence and discussion about organ donation and transplantation. The new Onassis Hospital (and the Onassis National Transplant Center) also celebrates its first anniversary of operation on the very same day. This year’s masterclass is entitled: “From organ donation to life: Redefining the pathways of transplantation”, reflecting the transition from organ donation to organized pathways. From infrastructure to clinical practice. From scientific development to life. One year following the opening of the new transplant center, the discussion will focus not only on what has been achieved so far, but mainly on the new possibilities offered for transplantation in Greece, with the valuable support of the State.

One of the masterclass’ highlights is the video-recorded interview featuring Abdulaziz Aldarwish, who shares the health ordeal of his ten-year-old son, Yahia; an ordeal that had a happy ending thanks to the collaboration of Cyprus and Greece and the kidney transplantation that took place at the Onassis hospital. This is the story of a father who crossed borders looking for a treatment for his child and ended up donating his own kidney to offer his son a second chance in life. This personal story had a happy ending thanks to the new possibilities offered after the relaunch of pediatric transplantation in low-weight children in Greece. It reflects in the most authentic way the fact that behind every transplantation, there is a series of people, institutions and acts inspired by trust.

This year, the program brings together scientists from Greece and abroad to discuss the key topics that will shape the future of transplantation: precision medicine, biomarkers, artificial intelligence, pediatric transplantation and donation after circulatory death (DCD). On this occasion, the event will share the key developments achieved over the first year of operation of the new Onassis Hospital and the Onassis National Transplant Center, as part of the broader national endeavor to strengthen organ donation and transplantation in Greece.

Such an important milestone, seeing the Transplant Masterclasses celebrating five years of life! Five years over which they have grown to become a standing space of knowledge, experience and inspiration for health professionals, scientists and citizens alike.
